The Electoral College Vote Certification of 2021

Hey, did you see that part when people broke into the capitol building during the electoral vote certification and the Speaker of the House and the Vice President had to be whisked away to a secure location by secret service and all of our elected senators and representatives had to hide and a lady got shot and died and property was damaged and the police didn’t shoot rubber bullets at anyone even though they were trespassing and stealing things from the chambers and offices of congress?

Yeah…me, too.

I don’t believe there is anything I can add to this conversation. I can only share how I felt, and I imagine it is the same as many, many other people.

I feel like it would be re-traumatizing to go into all that here.

Maybe it is obvious, but I will say anyway that I am having these conversations with people I care about, who care about me. I’m able to sigh and cry and feel worried about what is happening. I’m able to have moments of hope and patriotism amidst the anger and swear words. My teenager asks questions about civics and politics, and we look up answers. We watch the news and agree and disagree. We will read and watch and keep talking.

There’s a lot of responsibility, isn’t there? To each other. To our kids. Let’s meet the moment.

Take care, friends.
